The jousting tournament is speed and competition, a little scary and very entertaining! There are beautiful horses with brave knights, lazy armies and a gaping herald. Sometimes there are fun jugglers and skilled archery with the arena or acrobats and fire extinguishers doing everything to entertain you. Medieval jousting is the most spectacular of sporting events!
You are all welcome to our tournament games in 2019. We hope we will see you in the audience at one of this year’s tournaments on Gotland or the mainland. All tower games on the island are carried out in close collaboration with the Medieval Week on Gotland.
The actors in a tourney
Every knight has his armor. The weapon’s task is to always assist his knight, answer that weapons and armor are in the best condition and help on the track during the tournament. Often, the weapons argue with each other and try to give benefits to their knights or find buses so that other knights lose.
The Herald is the King’s spokesman and one-man judge, this is the one who decides on the rider railway. The Herald is also a publisher (speaker) who explains the different parts of the game. The haystack and the feathers often cheerfully hoarse with the audience and especially if the high part is in place.
Knights of the Knights
Each knight selects a patron from the audience. It is to his honor the knight will struggle throughout the game.
The Horses of the Knights
Every knight has a well-trained and courageous horse that means everything during the game. The horses are trained for many years to cope with sounds and applause as well as burning spears and lances. There are several different breeds that are used, including fries, quarters and PRE horses, but the main thing is that the horses want and manage the touring game together with their rider.
Branches in tourney
Riding towards Quintan
The knight rides against the quintan, a natural figure wooden figure. The wooden figure holds a shield on one arm and a chain with an iron ball in the other. With their lance one should hit the shield and pair so that the knight does not meet with the globe that comes rushing.
The knight shall with his spear hit objects on the ground and bring them with him.
Here the knight picks rings with swords. The rings are about 50 cm above the ground.
The battle lance is used to tip a suspended ring.
At this branch, the knights with their sword must first split an apple in two and then directly capture a ring from a stand.
Man vs man
Riding in full armor with shield and lance against each other.Hit the opponent’s shield victory.Meeting the opponent’s horse involves disqualification, as well as deliberate hit on the opponent’s body.
